Geology, A.S.

The A.S. in Geology from Casper College offers an exciting and unique degree program for students interested in fulfilling transfer requirements for bachelor’s programs, preparing for work in industry, and opportunities to participate in research projects in both laboratory and field geoscience.  Casper College is located at the base of Casper Mountain which, though small by Rocky Mountain standards, hosts excellent examples of rocks and structures extending back through geologic time.  Casper is known for its historical role in the oil and gas industry, its proximity to world-class fossil locations, its strong cultural and historical heritages, and for hosting one of the largest populations of professional geologists per capita.

The Earth and Environmental Department, which houses the A.S. in Geology, has an Advisory Board composed of professionals in Geology, Environmental Science, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), in order to advise and assess the current workforce skill set requirements.  Students work closely with faculty advisors to ensure efficiency in degree program management, and effective advising based on an individual student’s educational and career goals.  In addition, Casper College offers transferable sophomore classes in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics that are typically required for a bachelor’s degree in Geology.
