1.0    Purpose

This policy establishes guidelines for creating and using job descriptions.

3.0    Persons Affected

3.1    Casper College employees.

3.2    Applicants for jobs at the college.

4.0    Policy

The policy of Casper College is to ensure the following.

4.1    The college complies with the Fair Labor Standards Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and other applicable laws and regulations pertaining to job classifications.

4.2    The college has a written description for each type of job at the college.

5.0    Definitions

5.1    Job Descriptions. This document describes the specific responsibilities and duties of a particular job. The college uses job descriptions to recruit employees, to determine the compensation level of a job, to evaluate employees, to ensure equity and compliance with federal and state employment regulations, and as a guide for employees regarding job responsibilities and duties.

6.0    Responsibilities

6.1    The human resources (HR) director is responsible for ensuring employee job descriptions are current and accurate for all employees except the college president.

6.2    Supervisors are responsible for working with HR to write accurate job descriptions.

7.0    Procedures

7.1    The supervisor and the HR director discuss the responsibilities and duties of the job with the HR director. Based on that conversation, the supervisor will complete the appropriate job description form.

7.2    Each successive supervisor through the appropriate vice president reviews the job description for completeness.

7.3    After each supervisor has approved the draft job description, the direct supervisor submits the job description to HR for final review and approval.

7.4    HR will review the job description to ensure compliance with legal requirements and internal consistency. Upon approval, HR will provide the direct supervisor with the final approved job description and retain one copy on file in HR.
