1.0    Purpose

This policy establishes guidelines for eligibility and use of the Golden Age Scholarship (GAS).

3.1    Individuals who meet the GAS residency and age eligibility requirements.

4.0    Policy

The policy of Casper College is to ensure the following.

4.1    The college supports older community members by providing credit and community education classes at a discounted rate.

5.0    Definitions

5.1    GAS. This scholarship provides individuals who meet residency and age eligibility discounted tuition on credit and community education classes.

5.2    Residency Eligibility. Applicants for the GAS must meet the following residency requirements.

5.2.1    Individuals who want to apply the GAS to credit classes must meet the in-state Wyoming residency qualification for community colleges and be a Natrona County resident for six months or longer.

5.2.2    Individuals who want to apply the GAS to community education classes must be a Natrona County resident.

5.3    Age Eligibility. Applicants for the GAS must meet the following age requirements.

5.3.1    Individuals who want to apply the GAS to credit classes must be age 60 or older at the beginning of the term.

5.3.2    Individuals who want to apply the GAS to community education classes must be age 60 or older prior to the first day of class.

5.4    Discount Rate. This is the percentage reduction eligible individuals receive off tuition. This scholarship does not include course fees, books, or supplies, which the individual must pay. Individuals who receive more than one tuition specific scholarship will not be awarded a scholarship that would exceed 100% of the cost of attendance.

5.4.1    Credit Classes. The credit class discount is 70% off tuition and mandatory per credit fees. Fifteen credits is the maximum number of credits per semester eligible for the GAS.

5.4.2    Community Education Classes. The Community Education discount is 70% off tuition. Trips and classes provided by outside, third-party vendors are not covered by this scholarship.

6.0    Responsibilities

6.1    Applicants are responsible for providing accurate residency and age information.

6.2    The vice president of student services is responsible for maintaining compliance with this policy for students taking credit classes.

6.3    The executive dean for continuing education is responsible for maintaining compliance with this policy for students taking community education classes.

7.0    Procedures

Credit Classes

7.1    Individuals who want to apply the GAS toward credit classes present a valid government issued ID with their age and documentation that they meet in-state Wyoming residency qualification for community colleges and have been a Natrona County resident for six months or longer to an enrollment services employee.

7.2    The employee enters individuals who meet eligibility requirements into the college’s registration system as being approved to use the GAS for credit classes. The employee provides the individual with a GAS card. The scholarship will be applied when the individual enrolls in a credit class.

Community Education Classes

7.3    Individuals who want to apply the GAS toward community education classes present their GAS card or a valid government issued ID with their age and documentation that they are a Natrona County resident to a continuing education employee.
 
7.4    The employee enters individuals who meet eligibility requirements into the Continuing Education’s registration system as being approved to use the GAS for community education classes. There is no GAS card issued to people who want to apply the GAS towards only community education classes. The scholarship will be applied when the individual enrolls in a community education class.
