Campus Housing

Residence Halls

Campus housing is provided in the residence hall complex and Wheeler Terrace for full-time (12 hour), unmarried degree-seeking students. All are three-story buildings providing ready access to the centers of campus activity.

Casper College recommends the on-campus living experience as an integral part of the total educational process but does not require students to live in the residence halls.

Students residing in the residence hall complex are expected to behave responsibly. Existing regulations set the foundation for an educationally sound atmosphere within the building and on campus. Students are allowed to regulate their own hours; no curfew is imposed. Each student receives a building key, allowing the student to come and go.

Students who live in the residence hall complex are required to purchase a cafeteria meal plan. Wheeler Terrace residents are not required to purchase a meal plan, but may if they choose.

A $200 deposit must accompany each application for residence hall reservations. Contact the student life director for  information regarding reservation deposits and campus housing.

Single Student Apartments

Civic Apartments include twelve one-bedroom unfinished apartments are available for one to two people who are 23 years old or older and rent for $600 per month. Thorson Terrace Apartments include eight one-bedroom apartments that rent for $600 per month, including utilities, Internet service, and local telephone service. Thorson apartments are furnished, but occupants must provide their own utensils, dishes, bedding, and linen. The applicant’s age, record of responsibility, and class status are considered when assigning apartments. A $200 damage deposit is required.

Academic Testing Center

The Casper College Academic Testing Center (ATC), located in the Thorson Institute of Business, room 120, offers a secure, proctored environment for a wide range of testing needs. The ATC offers make up exams for some on-campus courses, exams for many Casper College distance education classes, and ATI Nursing exams. Testing appointments must be made in advance and can be scheduled in a variety of ways. Contact the ATC at 268-3850 or testing@caspercollege.edu to schedule appointments at least 24 hours in advance. Note: students must present a valid photo ID that includes their signature OR THEIR CURRENT CASPER COLLEGE STUDENT ID to be admitted for testing. The ATC is a National College Testing Association Certified Test Center.

Computer Laboratories

Both Windows and Macintosh computers are available in laboratories for general student access. In addition, Casper College has several departmental computer labs. Please consult the appropriate department head to determine availability of departmental computer labs.

All computer network resources are provided to support educational purposes relating to courses of study only. Commercial use is prohibited. Users are expected to comply with institutional policies and local, state and federal legal standards. The college may impose limited restrictions on the use of its computer network systems. Qualified users of the computer network resources include Casper College and university partnership students, faculty and staff.

Word processing, spreadsheet and database software and Internet access is available in the computer labs. Software used for specific disciplines is also available in certain labs. For additional information, contact the Information Technology Help Desk, 307-268-3648.

Digital Learning Center

Distance education refers to courses offered outside of a traditional classroom setting using a variety of technologies for delivery. Distance education courses provide more flexible scheduling options, the opportunity to participate from convenient locations, and conform to the standard college instructional calendar.

Casper College offers online and hybrid courses. Online courses are taught entirely over the Internet. These courses are identified as N1, N2, etc. sections, and NET under the delivery mode. Hybrid courses are a combination of online and in-class instruction with reduced in-class seat time. These courses are identified as H1, H2, etc. sections and LAL and NET under delivery mode. Check with your instructor for more information.

Online and hybrid courses require the same prerequisites, admissions and registration procedures, and learning objectives as do on-campus courses. English Center

Students wishing to improve skills in English grammar, sentence construction, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, reading, listening, and study skills may enroll in courses or obtain drop-in assistance in the English Center, room 132 in Strausner Hall.

The center provides an extensive library of programmed textbooks, audio and video tapes, computer software, and reading pacers, making individualized, self-paced instruction available for each student. Students are able to arrange class hours to fit their particular schedules. An instructor is available during center hours for consultation.

Mathematics Learning Center

The Mathematics Learning Center, located in the Wold Physical Science Center, room 104, is available to all Casper College students. The Center operates on a drop-in basis with evening hours available Mondays through Thursdays during the academic year.

The supervisor of the laboratory and hired students are available for tutorial assistance. Several forms of electronic media including video and microcomputers are available. Videotaped lectures are available for most topics. The center has software for the computer for tutorial instruction and for drill and practice.

Writing Center

The Writing Center is a resource for Casper College students, faculty, and staff, UW at Casper and affiliated institutions, and residents of the Casper community. Trained writing assistants work with authors on writing projects in all disciplines, and on personal projects such as business and professional correspondence, poetry, fiction and other genres. Peer, faculty, and community volunteer staff use a variety of strategies to assist authors at any stage of a writing project, from generating materials, to drafting and revising to editing of the final version. Writing Center resources include textbooks, professional journals, and teacher preparation materials about writing in all disciplines, plus information on markets and contests for writers. Writing Center services are free; check at the Writing Center, Strausner Hall, room 138 at (307) 268-2610 for hours.

Notary Public

A notary public is available to all students and those who need notarized signatures for completion of official documents. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this free service at the Accounting and Financial Management Office.

Student Health Insurance

All students are encouraged to have health insurance while attending Casper College. Some programs require health insurance for participation.

Students may purchase an accident and sickness insurance plan from Student Assurance Services. This plan is open to all students taking three or more credit hours per semester. For information, enrollment materials and registration go to www.sas-mn.com or pick up a brochure from Student Services.

Students who come from countries without a National Insurance Plan, can purchase Casper College’s International Student Insurance through Student Insurance Services which covers repatriation expenses. Contact the International Student Admissions office at 307-268-2220 for more information.

Student Identification Cards

Student photo identification cards are issued to any student enrolled in a Casper College or affiliated institution credit course who pays the college’s mandatory student fees There is a fee for  replacement identification cards. A valid photo identification card is required for admittance to college-sponsored activities, library services, and for verification of student status. Student ID cards are available in the Enrollment Services Center, located on the third floor of the Gateway Building.

GEAR UP

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federal grant program designed to increase the number of at risk youth who enter into and succeed in post-secondary education. Casper’s GEAR UP program serves 7 to 12 grade Natrona County youth and their parents. GEAR UP focuses on enhancing already existing youth services through partnerships and networks in local communities. GEAR UP programs can be found at each of Wyoming’s community college campuses and on the University of Wyoming campus.

Casper College houses its GEAR UP program in the lower level of the Strausner Hall.
